Pre-Kindergarten classes for four and five year-olds focus on reading, math and language skills. Children read stories aloud as well as sequence story events and create simple charts. Patterns are explored through measurement, problem solving and graphing, with the introduction of hands-on learning aids such as tape measures and pattern blocks. Themes such as the holidays and changing seasons are explored and paired with a supporting curriculum. For example, a lesson on the neighborhood would include a walking trip to a local pizza parlor, dictating the trip experience into a personal class story, making pizza in the classroom, and graphing choices of toppings, along with related art projects, games, songs and stories. The children particularly enjoy Pizza/Pajama night, during which they come to school in pajamas and slippers for a fun evening with their teachers.
