As you have no doubt heard, on Saturday a tragic shooting incident took place at the Chabad Synagogue of Poway, California. It has been reported that a lone shooter entered the synagogue and fatally shot one woman, and injured three others. We stand in unity with the Jewish community of Poway and share in their shock and grief over this senseless act of hate and violence.
Safety and security are always our primary concerns at Temple Sinai. We have careful and extensive security plans in place at all times, and our staff is trained to respond to a wide variety of situations. Our security measures are professionally reviewed on a regular basis.
As you may know, in recent weeks, we added on-site security personnel to our established safety and security protocols. Our security guard is now at Temple Sinai whenever the Early Childhood Center and Religious School are in session, and for other special gatherings as needed.
In addition, in light of the tragedy in California, we have been in contact with the Tenafly Police Department more than is usual. TPD is aware of the shooting and has is conducting intensified patrols over all local Jewish institutions, including Temple Sinai. We are grateful that the Tenafly Police Department continues to be our close partner in keeping all members of our community safe.
We look forward to a day when all can live together in peace, and hope to see you at our Solidarity Shabbat this Friday, May 3.
With prayers for peace,
Anne-Marie Bennoun, President
Rabbi Jordan Millstein
